A parade of fire trucks down Ridge Road Tuesday evening, their lights flashing, will mark the annual Parade of Lights, a silent memorial for those killed in the line of duty.
The Oct. 9 parade is expected in Homewood between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m. For Homewood, it is a reminder of the death of firefighter Brian Carey, 28, who lost his life fighting a house fire in March 2010.
The parade is held the Tuesday of National Fire Prevention Week. It is a time when fire departments from the area come together to remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty. The event will begin with a memorial service in South Holland, travel through Thornton and come to Homewood.
