Homewood will celebrate the change of seasons with its annual Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off Saturday, Sept. 29. The party starts at 11 a.m. and continues through 10 p.m. with events, the chili tasting and serving, and outstanding musical entertainment. There also will be horse drawn wagon rides between 6 and 9 p.m., and the movie “Coco” will be shown at dusk.

Contestants can show off their creativity and help beautify the homes and downtown area where the scarecrows will be on display. Forms used to make the scarecrow are available at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
This year’s Chili Cook-off will be judged in two categories: amateur and professional. Samplings will be offered and proceeds will benefit the Homewood-Flossmoor High School choir, which is raising money for the spring trip to northern Italy. Contest applications are available at village hall, or at homesweethomewood.com.
- 11 a.m., the Ayodele Drum and Dance group performs African drum and dance selections from a feminine perspective.
- 1 to 3 p.m., The Spaniels Forever, an American R&B doo-wop group, best known for the hit “Goodnite, Sweetheart, Goodnite” and other great four-part harmony hits.
- 4 to 6 p.m., Eric Lambert entertains with feel-good Americana infused with bluegrass, blues, rock and doses of soul.
- 7 to 10 p.m., Bumpus shares its powerful brand of soul music that Sly & the Family Stone, James Brown and Marvin Gaye brought to audiences. The band brings together funky big beats, deep bass, lush horns and a heavy organ sound.
