Baseball teams all have a slate of starting pitchers. Marian Catholic High School has a new specialist, a “first pitcher.”
he Chicago White Sox have announced they are bringing back Sister Mary Jo Sobieck, theology teacher at Marian, to throw out the first pitch at the Crosstown Cup series at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday, Sept. 22.
Her performance throwing out the first pitch at the White Sox game on Aug. 18 went viral on social media, earning her accolades and considerable attention from national media.
The White Sox will take on the Chicago Cubs in the traditionally popular Crosstown Cup series at 6:10 p.m. at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Since her first trip to the mound, Sister Mary Jo has had a whirlwind tour that has allowed her to spread her message of her love for God and sports to the world. Her motto, “Do your best and let God do the rest” has resonated with her students at Marian Catholic and with the many people she has spoken to since she became a sensation. She has appeared in the media on Good Morning America, Inside Edition, Fox & Friends and more.
