Flossmoor seeking applicants for police department eligibility list

Applications for the position of police officer are available online by contacting Kamleiter at [email protected] and at the department, 2800 Flossmoor Road. The department began distributing the applications on Aug. 27. Applications must be returned in person by noon on Sept. 21.
Deputy Chief Tod Kamleiter said the department distributed about 50 applications within the first 24 hours they were available.
Successful applicants will be included in the Flossmoor department’s new eligibility list, to be posted in November. According to state law, eligibility lists for police departments need to be updated every two years.
To be included on the eligibility list, applicants must pass a written test, physical agility test, oral interview, background investigation, psychological examination and medical examination.
The mandatory written test is scheduled for Oct. 6.
Applicants must submit proof of successful completion of the physical agility test – the Illinois Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report, or P.O.W.E.R.. The test is administered at the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy, Joliet Junior College or Triton College. Applicants must possess a valid Power Test Certification Card within six months prior to October 2018. The cost of completing this test is the responsibility of the applicant. 
 Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent and a U.S. citizen, age 21 to 34 at the time of the application deadline unless otherwise provided by State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6. Upon appointment, applicants must live within 30 miles of the Flossmoor Village Hall.
The starting salary for a Flossmoor police officer is $52,199 and that amount goes up to $85,581 after six years. Benefits include a uniform allowance, life insurance, partially-paid health insurance, nationwide public employee health program, vacation, floating holidays and pension plan.
The current eligibility list includes 20 applicants who must re-apply to be included on the new list.
Kamleiter said two Flossmoor police officers have been hired from the eligibility list that was posted in November 2016.
