Branden Anderson, a sophomore at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, participated in the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Lowell, Massachusetts, this summer.
Over the two-day meeting June 29 and 30, Branden met students from across the country who came together to listen to outstanding scientists who spoke on their cutting-edge advances in science and technology. He was inspired to pursue a career in engineering after seeing a presentation by Richard Browning from Gravity Industries who designed a flight suit that uses six miniature jet engines to achieve vertical flight.
Branden will be earning college credit through Washington Adventist University for his report on the program.
The meeting was open to honors students passionate about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). As a freshman, Branden was a straight-A student and was inducted into the H-F chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the mathematics honors society. He has been a member of Northwestern University’s Midwest Talent Search program since seventh grade at Parker Junior High.
Branden was on the Vikings freshman baseball team, and plays travel baseball with the Mud Dogs team of Flossmoor. This summer he was chosen for the Rhinos traveling baseball team out of Romeoville for the 2018-19 season.
In his free time, he volunteers for the Church of the Nazarene in Chicago Heights and with the Journey Care program. He is the son of Darlene and Branden Anderson of Chicago Heights.
