Send kids ‘Chalk the Walk’ messages for back to school

An armed robbery was reported to Flossmoor police on Tuesday. Police said that a male victim reported that he was walking in the 1000 block of Leavitt Avenue when he was approached by a suspect who displayed a handgun and demanded his cell phone. After the victim surrendered his phone, the male suspect fled the area in a vehicle. The incident took place at about 5:30 p.m. on April 2 in an area just west of downtown Flossmoor and north of Flossmoor Road. Flossmoor police notified the public about the incident in an email alert . . .

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
