Parker probe heads for the sun

The Parker Solar Probe, named for former Flossmoor resident Eugene Parker, successfully began its long journey to the sun at 2:31 a.m. central time on Sunday, Aug. 12. 

 

The 10-second launch countdown begins at 22:25 in this NASA video.

Parker will be the speaker at the Homewood Historical Society’s Sept. 12 meeting, 7 p.m. at Homewood Public Library.
