Downtown dogs on display as SSHS fundraiser moves to Flossmoor

They represent the best that life has to offer. Love. Bravery. Loyalty. Community spirit.

Dogs on Parade has returned to the H-F area for another summer, with 17 life-sized pups standing watch in downtown Flossmoor.

The display, a fundraiser for the South Suburban Humane Society, moved to Flossmoor this year following its inaugural run in Homewood last summer.

The regal dogs will be stationed on downtown sidewalks until Flossmoor Fest on Sept. 8, when they will be up for auction. Last year’s fundraiser brought in about $10,000 for SSHS.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the Village of Flossmoor to bring Dogs on Parade back to our H-F community,” said Humane Society CEO Emily Klehm. She is optimistic that his year’s fundraising total will exceed last year’s donations.

Flossmoor’s village staff has been “a joy to work with,” she said.

Two new features have been added to this year’s Dogs on Parade.

Flossmoor designed an online map showing the location of the downtown dogs and what organizations sponsored them. Photographs of all the dogs are located with the map.

Also, SSHS is sponsoring a photo contest this year. Interested persons can submit photos of themselves with their favorite dog and be eligible to win a prize pack from local businesses, the village of Flossmoor and SSHS. Contest rules can be found at https://dogsonparade.hscampaigns.com.

Information on Dogs on Parade is also available at the Flossmoor’s website, www.flossmoor.org,  and Facebook pages for the village and SSHS.

Dogs for this year are sponsored by the Village of Flossmoor; Center for Dental Excellence; H-F Homes — Coldwell Banker; Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department; Lighthouse LGBTQ; Tito’s; Prairie State College; Flossmoor Animal Hospital; Flossmoor Community Church; Dogs, Cats and a Couple of Chicks; Dr. Judy Johnson and Dr. Wendy Scheinfurth; the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle; Wiley’s Grill and the South Suburban Humane Society.

Several dogs are from private individuals — “Rainbow Bridge” from an anonymous donor; “One in a Melon,” by Melony and “Aquarium,” by Paula Poulson.
