Less water lost as Flossmoor projects show positive results

On a quiet winter Sunday, there is nothing like the sound of crashing glass to wake you from a peaceful reverie, and to remind you that life is one big, loud roller coaster ride.

Like me, you can pretend that you are in charge of your day-to-day existence. And then a hawk smashes into the dining room window.

The glass on the dining room floor — nearly 20 pounds of it — has been carted away but the window is still boarded up. I write this knowing that it will be nearly two weeks before . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
