District 161 students accomplish reading goal

Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Donors help replenish the supply. The Homewood Fire Department is hosting a blood drive Saturday, Feb. 2. Staff from Vitalant will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fire station, 17950 Dixie Highway. Walk-ins are welcome, but scheduled appointments are being accepted at vitalant.org.   • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
