Crime prevention may sound complicated, and it’s a topic that many of us would rather not think about.

But we can all follow simple steps to prevent becoming crime victims and the beginning of a new year is a perfect time to start taking them.

Sgt. Keith Taylor of the Flossmoor Police Department will lead the 2019 Safety Tips informational session on Tuesday, Jan. 15. The program, sponsored by the Flossmoor Police Department, will take place between 6 and 7 p.m. in the Village Hall boardroom, 2800 Flossmoor Road.

The program is free and open to all.

Taylor, a nine-year Flossmoor police veteran, serves as liaison to the village’s Human Relations Commission, where he has shared information on crime prevention that has been incorporated into village-sponsored programs and events.

His presentation will focus on how residents can be safe and secure by starting new habits. It will include simple suggestions in our everyday lives that can significantly reduce chances for crime. Taking steps like always locking doors to our homes and vehicles will make a difference in our community, Taylor says.

Other topics to be covered include crime prevention through home design, safety tips about how to be most secure when using ATM machines and at gas stations and important information regarding shopping and deliveries.

There will be a question-and-answer period and refreshments will be served. Handouts will be available for residents to share with neighbors, friends and family.
