In our cover feature, Marilyn Thomas reported on the South Suburban Recreation Association’s 45th anniversary. The organization provides sports and recreation opportunities to people with special needs in the H-F area.

Tom Houlihan wrote about Flossmoor’s recognition for its intentional inclusivity by the International City and County Managers Association. The village won the 2018 Community Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Award with help from a video showing community members celebrating the village’s welcoming atmosphere for people of all walks of life, backgrounds and races.

Stephanie Markham wrote about a partnership between the Homewood Science Center and Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, an internship that gave students an opportunity to learn about and help combat invasive species in the preserve.

Carole Sharwarko reported on the continuing struggles of some Homewood residents to comply with tighter enforcement of village sticker and parking ban exemption requirements, leading to long lines at times at village hall.
