District 233 business manager leaving in June

You may think your brain is cluttered with useless facts, but they could come in handy at the second annual Pop Culture Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. The contest, hosted by H-F’s Scholastic Bowl team, starts at 8:45 a.m. in the H-F South Building. Questions come from past Scholastic Bowl quiz kits, such as: This 1963 Beach Boys song set to the tune of a Chuck Berry song declares, “You’d see 'em wearin’ their baggies/Huarachi sandals, too/A bushy, bushy blonde hairdo…” And:  . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
