On Arbor Day, Flossmoor Hills students help plant a tree outside school

During this season of giving, Respond Now is seeking unwrapped new toys for boys and girls from newborn to age 14 for its Holiday Giveaway event on Dec. 12 and 13.  The agency is in need of games, books, craft items, sports equipment and gift cards in $20 amounts. Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
