An eclectic group of local children and adults will show off their talents on Friday, Nov. 16, when Flossmoor Community Church hosts its second annual ShowOff talent show.

The talent show, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor, will raise money to benefit the FCC PADS shelter. The shelter runs Sunday evenings from October through April, providing food, shelter and hot showers to south suburban homeless men.

Last year, performers included community members of all ages and styles, featuring acoustic singer-songwriters, award-winning instrumentalists, dancers and full rock bands.

Organizers expect another evening of lively music by a talented community, including Matt Bailey and Brooke King-LaBreck, who also serve as organizers and masters of ceremony. Local teen rock band TiMELeSS, which performed at the Homewood Block Party in August, is expected to play, and the ringing voices of the Bel Canto Choir will be heard.

Funding for the PADS program will be raised through free-will donations, alcoholic drink sales and raffles, King-LaBreck said. Last year’s event raised more than $5,000 for the PADS shelter.

The evening is financed entirely by generous community sponsorship, including Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Flossmoor Community Church.

Sponsorship allows 100 percent of the evening’s proceeds to go directly to the shelter. Persons and businesses interested in sponsorship should contact King-LaBreck.
