Homewood police are investigating a Tuesday night carjacking on the village’s north end.

According to a media release from the Homewood Police Department, officers responded to a report of a carjacking at 9:33 p.m. Oct. 16 in the 17600 block of Briar Ave.

The victim told police that he was walking from his garage to his residence when he was approached by an unknown male subject. The man, armed with a handgun, grabbed the victim from behind, police said, and demanded his personal property. The victim broke free and ran towards his residence.

At that time two other men exited a vehicle parked on Briar Avenue adjacent to the victim’s residence and came towards the victim to assist their companion, police said. The three assailants knocked the victim to the ground, punching and kicking him until he gave up his personal property, including the keys to his vehicle.

The subjects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, a silver 2012 Honda Civic. The assailants were driving a black or dark-colored sedan, police said.

Homewood police say the three assailants are African-American males, thin and about 6 feet tall. They are all approximately 20 to 25 years of age, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to contact the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit at 708-206-3420.
