Morgan Park Academy March 8 program for middle schoolers

A two-year effort to increase the ranks of Homewood police officers was satisfied with the swearing in of Jason Johnson at Tuesday’s village board meeting. Police Chief Bill Alcott said the department has typically had 37 members for most of his tenure. He has worked to increase staff, and Johnson brings the total to 41 police officers. CaptionJohnson started with the department Aug. 2.   • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
