Deadline Feb. 12 for 2nd Girls STEAM Ahead program

(Photo by Marilyn   Thomas/H-F Chronicle) Work at Parker Junior High in Flossmoor is continuing despite picketers from Roofers & Waterproofers Local 11 arguing the district and the contractors are not following prevailing wage rules. But the district says paperwork shows the work is being done at a prevailing wage scale. District 161 awarded a contract to Kee Construction for $3.3 million for work at both Parker and Heather Hill School. Kee has subcontracted with Advanced Roofing and Woodworking for the roofing job . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
