Charges have been filed against two men in connection with a shooting and fight at the Walmart gas station at 17550 S. Halsted St. on Sunday, June 24.

Shmauer Banks, 20, of Chicago, and Deldeaundraa McKinnon, 19, of Dolton, were each charged with mob action and aggravated battery in a public way, police said. Both charges are felonies.

Officers arrived at the gas station at 8:07 p.m. after a report of a disturbance with shots fired, Homewood police said in a statement released Thursday.

Police learned of a fight in the parking lot between several individuals. At the scene were two individuals with gunshot injuries.

Witnesses told the H-F Chronicle that about 10 men were involved in the fight.

McKinnon was booked into Cook County Jail Wednesday on a $10,000 bond, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department said. His next court date is July 16 at the Markham courthouse. As of Thursday, Banks had not yet appeared in court.

On Sunday Homewood Fire Department paramedics also responded to the scene and transported the gunshot victims to the hospital, according to the release. Homewood police said their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Other persons of interest are in custody. Police did not say how many were being held or release details on those individuals.

Homewood police say there is no apparent ongoing safety issue related to this incident.
