MLK Day of Service inspires volunteerism around Flossmoor

Two outstanding members of the Vikings baseball team at Homewood-Flossmoor High School were offered contracts in the Major League Baseball draft in June.But left-handed pitcher Kyle Salley and outfielder Zaid Walker passed on the offers and instead will play ball in college. Both can be drafted by MLB after their third year of college.After graduation June 3, Salley played ball in a California collegiate league to keep active for a month before taking a summer course at Duke University, where he will be a freshman. Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
