Mayor’s Arctic Dip will remember Hofeld’s fall, benefit humane society

The Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet & Fitness Center will be getting five pieces of new equipment. At its board meeting Tuesday, Sept. 17, the board agreed to replace two of its oldest elliptical machines and an old recumbent exerciser. Commissioners approved a contract with Midwest Commercial Fitness for $21,200 for four Octane ellipticals and one Sci-Fit recumbent elliptical. “Standard elliptical machines are being replaced with cross trainers, which allow for more movements, such as walk, run, hike and climb. They also offer High Interval Training (HIT) for a 14-minute workout for max calorie burners . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
