Generations sharing expertise with Van Sipma’s customers

Some people know them as promotional kiosks. Others refer to them as sweepstakes machines. Whatever their name, they are now illegal in Flossmoor. The village board Monday approved an ordinance banning the electronic devices. In a unanimous decision, board members ruled that the devices are gaming machines and “it is in the best interests of the village and its residents to ban the operation of sweepstakes machines in the village.” Police Chief Michael Pulec said the machines resemble video gaming machines that are found in bars and other venues and have electronic displays that are similar . . .

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
