Homewood’s Miracle on Martin holiday fest set for Saturday

The village of Homewood is hosting Miracle on Martin Avenue from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Village officials said the afternoon program will be a fun, free way to extend the joys of the holiday through a second community event that started Dec. 1 with the lighting of the Christmas tree at Irwin Park and the Holiday Lights festival in downtown Homewood.

On Saturday, the community will gather to enjoy a bonfire with s’mores and beverages to take the chill away.

Santa will be at the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available through the downtown area from 3 to 6 p.m.

There will also be a special “I Spy” community event with maps of the downtown business windows and lists of items to seek. Riddles on the windows provide hints to find specific items. Kids of all ages can fill out an “I Spy” treasure hunt form to enter the contest.

“We are going to extend the festive feeling with this second event that will make Martin Avenue merry and bright. It’s a wonderful time of year to explore the downtown, shop and eat at our local restaurants and enjoy coming together as a community,” said Mayor Richard Hofeld.
