South Suburban Family Shelter seeks donations for Adopt-A-Family holiday program

Water rates in Flossmoor are going up again, although the latest increase is less than 1 percent.

Village board members Monday approved a 12-cent increase per 1,000 gallons of water, a step that is being taken to offset small rate hikes from Chicago and Harvey. The new costs translate into a 9-cent increase in the water rate and 3-cent jump in the sewer rate.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
