H-F Scholastic Bowl team outstanding at meet

The Scholastic Bowl team representing Homewood-Flossmoor High School set a school record at a solo competitors tournament Oct. 28 at New Trier High School in Winnetka.
 
H-F Scholastic Bown team members are Andronicus Marati, Ethan Bosch and Luca Strohmeier, seniors; Ken Nakamura, Jimmy Humphrey and Myles Walker, juniors; Janellie Roach, a sophomore.
 
Faculty sponsor Michael Sacks reported all seven team members won at least three solo matches. It was the first time in school history H-F had that level of success for its competitors. There were 125 students from high schools across the Chicago area competing.
 
Andronicus led the team with 64 questions answered correctly of 140 addressed over seven rounds. Ken had the highest increase in performance from last year’s competition with an increase of 15 questions answered correctly. 
 
Top scorers by category were: 
•  Ethan Bosch: Tied for 4th place in Physics, tied for 7th place in Chemistry, tied for 11th place in British Literature
•  Luca Strohmeier: Tied for 2nd place in Miscellaneous Fine Arts, tied for 10th place in Miscellaneous Social Science
•  Jimmy Humphrey: Tied for 4th place in Physics, tied for 7th place in Chemistry, tied for 5th place in Mathematics
•  Janellie Roach: Tied for 11th place in  British Literature
•  Andronicus Marati: Tied for 4th place in Miscellaneous Science, tied for 10th place in Painting, Tied for 10th place in Miscellaneous Social Science
•  Ken Nakamura: Tied for 9th place in European and World Literature, tied for 7th place in Instrumental Classical Music.
