Homewood’s Miller was the ‘Edison’ of roller coasters

A group of Flossmoor residents has come together in support of the village’s sales tax referendum set to appear on the March 20 ballot. According to the group’s spokesperson, Don Grasse, about a dozen community members have gathered twice to discuss promoting the referendum, which would create a 1 percent village sales tax. So far, the group has raised money to order 100 lawn signs and they have identified as spokesmen Grasse and former Illinois State Rep.   • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
