Homewood rings in Railroad Safety Week, unveils mural

Do you know how to make White Chocolate Cranberry Pistachio Bark? Pastry chef Casey Thompson does, and she will show how it's done at the 16th annual Homewood Chocolate Fest on Saturday, Feb. 17.   A Chocolate Fest patron   with a tray full of sample   treats prepared by Bake-Off   competitors. Thompson is a chef at The Cottage on Dixie restaurant. She received second place honors at the 2016 Chocolate Fest Bake-Off competition. She has operated a home baking business and baked for the former Sweet Annie . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
