Governors State University is hosting an artists’ showcase “Body and Spirit” featuring the works of Vera Klement and Dan Ramirez.
The free exhibit is on display through Sept. 30 in the Visual Arts Gallery on the campus in University Park. The gallery at Governors State University is committed to creating an intellectually stimulating, and visually compelling experience for the entire region through dynamic exhibitions of established, emerging and student artists’ work, according to GSU.
Both artists’ contributions are well established in the history of art in Chicago. Their connections go back to the 1970s when Ramirez studied under Klement at the University of Chicago as a master of fine arts student. He recognizes her as having had the biggest role in his career.
Their paintings are visually disparate and seemingly unrelated, but when considered in dialog with each other, and when their sources of inspiration are considered, guests will see a strong connection among them, said GSU staff member Sharon Morrissey.
