Fire department science program for teens is Sept. 23

Haley Marti has been selected as the next principal at Flossmoor Hills School. The Flossmoor District 161 Board of Education unanimously approved her promotion at its Jan. 9 meeting.

Marti, who is assistant principal at Flossmoor Hills, will succeed Principal Pat McCraven, who is retiring.  Marti will officially begin her new responsibilities on July 1 . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
