Be a blood donor on Saturday.
Blood donations during summer months are low. LifeSource blood bank hopes to rebuild supply by holding a blood drive at the Homewood Fire Department, 17950 Dixie Highway, on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a blood drive.
According to Eva Quinley, LifeSource regional executive director, over the past few weeks LifeSource has seen less than a three-day supply in critical blood types, including O-negative and O-positive. Donations from O-negative donors who can be universal donors are especially important.
“The decline in blood donation numbers this summer is the worst I have ever seen,” Quinley said. “We need donors to give blood now to help patients in need. It only takes about an hour to save up to three lives by giving blood.”
Persons willing to donate but unable to attend the Saturday blood draw are welcome to visit the LifeSource Lansing Community Donor Center, 2 River Plaza. It is staffed Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
