H-F theater students present “Serial” as first performance of the year

Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s Leaders in Theatre Ensemble opens the 2017-18 theater performance season with the presentation of “Serial” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17, 18 and 19, in the school’s Mall Auditorium.

The production of “Serial” is based on the groundbreaking National Public Radio podcast by the creators of the show “This American Life.” It tells a true crime story about Adnan Syed, who has been in prison for 15 years for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, while the two were in high school . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
