Homewood will have a “Scarecrow Town” set up downtown the week of Sept. 18.
The Homewood Beautification Committee is asking community residents to get their designs ready for the 2017 Scarecrow Contest.
This year, entries will be judged at noon as part of the village’s Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 16. First, second and third place and people’s choice awards will be presented. All entries will be put on display in “Scarecrow Town,” at the corner of Hickory Road and Dixie Highway.

In the past, the scarecrows have been on display throughout downtown Homewood, but the committee is making a change this year allowing scarecrow creators to take their projects home after being on display for a week.
“With all the work that goes into making the scarecrows, we think people will love being able to take them home to enjoy during the Halloween season,” said Cate Roberts, a member of the beautification committee.
Volunteers will be selling the $6 pre-made scarecrow forms from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug 12, at the Homewood Farmer’s Market, Martin Avenue and Chestnut Road in downtown Homewood, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Homewood Block Party on Martin Avenue at Ridge Road.
Starting Aug. 14, scarecrow frames will be available at Homewood Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut Road, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Guidelines, creative suggestions and an entry form for the Scarecrow Contest are on the village’s website.
