Residents enjoy summer night hobnobbing with local police at National Night Out

It was a wave of his hand, a lean in for emphasis, verbal cues and repeated “bravos” when Stilian Kirov, the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra maestro, spent time with Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Orchestra.

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
