Mancini promoted in Homewood Public Works Department

Banners in downtown Homewood honoring local veterans were removed this week, but they will be replaced by bigger versions next spring.The banners were placed on light poles around downtown Homewood just before the Fourth of July celebration this year. The project was sponsored by the Homewood Veterans Committee, which held a spring fundraising campaign to purchase the banners, each of which displays a local veteran's name, photo and service branch.Committee Chairwoman Char Dyer said at the Veterans Day ceremony in Homewood that the committee was not satisfied with the small size of the banners, which . . .

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
