Having reached the mid-point of 2017, the Flossmoor Business Association (FBA) is gearing up with a full calendar of events through the end of the year.
Doyle Sims, FBA’s president and owner of Doyle Designed Salon and Education Center, is excited with the direction the association is taking.
“Formerly, the association was known as the Downtown Flossmoor Business Association,” Sims said. “But when it started up again last fall, we recognized that there were new businesses coming in to town and we needed to expand our outreach to include all the businesses in our village.”
Sims said more than 20 businesses have come on board the FBA “and we are looking to grow.”
“We hope that any business owner in Flossmoor will consider joining and we are working to get our message out to them,” he said. “With new members coming in it provides an opportunity for new ideas on how we can best market our organization and strengthen our business community. If we are all working together, we can make a real difference in our town.”
To that end, Sims said there will be an FBA Business After Hours on Monday, July 24, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery. He said the get-together will be an opportunity for members to share their thoughts on moving forward and will hopefully draw in prospective members.
In addition to a fundraising Flossmoor Business Crawl scheduled in late August, the FBA will have a booth at Flossmoor Fest on Sept. 9. The association will participate in Small Business Saturday, a national event, on Nov. 25.
The FBA activities for 2017 will conclude with Winter Fest Saturday, scheduled on Dec. 9.
“It has been my experience that when people have the opportunity to get involved and to become part of special activities, they begin to feel like they are contributing something worthwhile and they take on a sense of ‘owning’ the event because they have a stake in its outcome,” he said. “We want our members to feel that and become excited about the future of the FBA.”
Serving on the FBA board are Jacqui Malizia, secretary, of Coldwell Banker, and William Villareal, treasurer, of US Bank.
