Acoustic Music Festival set for Aug. 26

South Suburban Family Shelter is looking for individuals, families or businesses interested in participating in its annual Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program for victims of domestic violence and their children during the holiday season.  The Adopt-A-Family program benefits those experiencing financial hardship as a result of their family circumstances.  “They would likely have nothing for the holidays without the help of generous donors,” said Vicki Meilach, community outreach coordinator. Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
