Seven Parker Junior High School students have been chosen to participate in a statewide musical festival on Nov. 4.

The District 1 Music Festival, hosted by the Illinois Music Education Association Elementary and Junior High Division, is taking place at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox.

 
Parker students chosen for the festival include Liam Nelson, band;  Thomas Cademcian, orchestra;   Avery Calhoon, orchestra;  Faye Wettstein, orchestra;  Janet Amuh, chorus;  Kaylee Rutherford, chorus;  and Audrey Simmons, chorus.  They were selected to participate based on their audition.
 
Liam Nelson was also selected to participate in the ILMEA Jazz Festival, which will take place at Thornton Fractional South High School on Nov. 11.  
 
“It is an honor for the students to be selected to participate in the ILMEA festival,” said Elana Reid, Parker’s band director. “We are very proud of these students for their hard work and for representing Parker Junior High at the music festival.”
 
More than 500 students were selected for the music festival from about 60 schools throughout the southwestern metropolitan Chicago area.
 
The Festival Band, Orchestra, and Chorus will present a public concert at 3 p.m. in the Lincoln-Way Central Field House.  Admission for the concert is $5.  Children under 6 will be admitted free of charge.  Appearing in the concert will be the 150 member festival band, the 100 piece festival orchestra, and the festival chorus numbering more than 150 voices.
 
Parker Junior High is located in Flossmoor.
