Park board approves new membership plan at racquet club

The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) will open its 40th season Oct. 14 under the direction of Stilian Kirov, its new music director and conductor. This year the IPO also will be in a new home at Ozinga Chapel at Trinity Christian College, 6601 W. College Drive in Palos Heights. The season’s programs are being inspired by the 100th anniversary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein. On opening night, the IPO will perform Beethoven’s “Triple Concerto” because Bernstein always played the piano part when it was performed. Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
