Ever since its sports program developed in the early 1960s, Homewood-Flossmoor High School has been promoting student-athletes to college athletics. Some finish their athletic careers in higher education, but some — including Wes Hamilton (NFL player from the Class of 1971), John Ely (MLB player from the Class of 2004) and Julian Wright (NBA player from the Class of 2005) — go on to careers as professional athletes.
