“Stomping Grounds,” a night of dance that moves through international cultures, will be presented at 8 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University.

The program brings together more than 50 dancers for a full-throttled production of global percussive dance that will transport the audience with sights and sounds found around the world, from the vast Serengeti of Africa and the mountain ranges of Andalucía to the highlands of Ireland and contemporary urban settings. Each is unique but co-exists alongside what Americans recognize as tap dancing.

This production features live drumming and a mix of new works and favorites.

This “Stomping Grounds” presentation is part of a two-month, citywide, rhythmic dance festival that spotlights the breadth, talent and diversity of Chicago’s percussive dance community.

The production is underwritten in part by First Midwest Bank, Chicago Community Trust and the National Endowment for the Arts.

GSU alumni may join a themed pre-show reception starting at 6 p.m. featuring African, Irish and Spanish cuisine and wine. Pre-registration is required at www.govst.edu/alumnievent.

Tickets are $28. Discounts are available for students, seniors 65 and older, veterans and active military, first responders, groups of 10 or more, and patrons purchasing three or more shows in the center’s yearly calendar. Tickets can be purchased at CenterTickets.net. For details call 708-235-2222.
