The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra has announced its five summer concerts in the IPO@Ravisloe series featuring IPO musicians and friends.
The 7 p.m. Wednesday concerts feature IPO ensembles at Ravisloe Country Club, 18231 Park Ave. in Homewood. Each concert brings a special flavor to the performance.
The opening program on June 14 features IPO strings on a “Musical Mystery Tour” through Eastern Europe celebrating the heritage of IPO’s new music director, Stilian Kirov, who is a native of Bulgaria. The program includes Hungarian dances, Romanian dances and gypsy music by Bartok, Glazunov, Chopin, Brahms and others.
On June 28, IPO’s brass section will be celebrating the birthday of the United States with “From Sea to Shining Sea,” a program of American and patriotic music. Trumpeter Greg Fudaia will lead the ensemble.
On July 12, the woodwinds section will mark “Parisian Nights” with works by French composers including Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Milhaud, Faure and Ibert. This concert is paired with a complimentary pre-concert wine tasting before the program, with sampled selections available for purchase during the concert.
On July 26, it’s the IPO Brass Quintet for “Bach, Brass and Bier” with the festive sounds of German and Austrian composers that are perfect for a biergarten. This program is being paired with a complimentary pre-concert craft beer tasting; sampled selections will also be available for sale during the concert.
On Aug. 9, the final concert of the summer season will feature jazz marking IPO’s 40th season with music from the ‘40s featuring Benn Clark and Friends.
