Six H-F seniors awarded HFPA scholarships

The six winners of Homewood Flossmoor High School Parents Association (HFPA) scholarship were announced at the May 24 honors convocation.

Recipients of the $500 scholarships and their colleges are: Jessica Ashby, Howard University;Jenna Bostick, Grand Valley State University; Jayson Doss, Columbia College Chicago; Lillian Gosha, University of Wisconsin-Platteville;
Alexis Sanders, Hampton University; andAmina Shittu, St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

HFPA raised more than $2,600 to underwrite the scholarships. The parents organization has been conducting fundraisers throughout the school year, including asking residents to save their Dunkin’ Donuts receipts and restaurants donating a share of the profits from H-F Cook’s Night Out programs.

But Belinda Porter, fundraising chair, said special thanks go to Class of 2016 graduates Hannah Levy, Isabel Weber, Jessica Barry and Mae Carroll. They asked family and guests at their graduation parties to donate to the scholarship fund. Together the four graduates donated $950, Porter said. She hopes the Class of 2017 will make donating a tradition.

Donations are being accepted by check to HFPA c/o Homewood-Flossmoor High School Foundation, 999 Kedzie Ave., Flossmoor, IL 60422 or online at http://www.hfhighschool.org/resources/hfpa/scholarship-fund/.
