The Homewood-Flossmoor High School badminton doubles team of Jenna Bostick and Ashley Deckelman will be competing in the Illinois High School Association’s State Badminton Tournament Friday and Saturday at Eastern Illinois University.

This will be the second year in a row the pair has made it to the state championship round.

At their last competition May 4 at the Hinsdale Central Badminton Sectional, Bostick and Denkelman team defeated Argo in two games with identical scores of 21-11. The victories moved them into the quarterfinals against Oak Lawn. After losing the first game by eight points, the team went on to win the second game 21-17 forcing a third game. The H-F doubles team clinched with a 21-16 win to advance to the state tournament.

The semifinal round pitted the H-F duo against Lyons Township, a team that had defeated them earlier in the sectional tournament. H-F lost the first game but came back with a 21-13 win, again forcing a third game.

At one point, the score was tied at 18, before the H-F badminton duo managed to break the tie and go on to earn the final three points to win 21-18.

Jenna and Ashley, both seniors, are two of the most decorated badminton players in H-F history. After finishing second at the competitive TF South Invite, the girls won first place at the Homewood-Flossmoor Invitational.

Jenna and Ashley also finished second in conference behind Lockport and have won 17 of their last 20 matches heading into the state meet. The duo’s season record is 32-17.
