Homewood District 153 school board will look for new member

The Homewood District 153 school board will conduct a special meeting on May 1 to swear in three incumbents, but one seat will remain vacant ― for the time being. Deborah Smith Havighorst, Gregory Lawrence and Shelly Marks were re-elected to four-year terms in the April 4 election. They were unopposed. Board member Steve Anderson will be resigning his position after 10 years. Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.
