Another heavy rainstorm brings flooding to some areas in Flossmoor

(Photos provided by  the Homewood Historical Society.)  The first golf club established in our area was the Flossmoor Country Club, which was named the Homewood Country Club when it was officially chartered in October 1899. The club was the brainchild of several Hyde Park businessmen enamored with the game of golf and convinced that the “south side” needed a club of its own situated along the Illinois Central . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
