Homewood-Flossmoor High School graduates Jade Greear and Destiny Watson will be two of three young adults featured in a Lifetime television program “Change Makers” airing at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28.

Greear and Watson are 2016 graduates of H-F. Greear is a former guest columnist for the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle, and Watson, president of You Matter 2, will be in the spotlight for their volunteer efforts with the WE organization.
Their stories are part of the Allstate #THEYSAY Project segments featured in the debut episode that focuses on youth empowerment. Destiny Watson

In 2015, Greear was selected from students across Illinois to be a spokesperson at the WeDay Illinois event. Her presentation was part of the “Letter to Your Future Self” segment of the daylong program.
The We Act program is a volunteer effort that gets young people to take action for social change.
It was Greear’s friend, Destiny Watson, who got her involved in volunteering when she helped establish You Matter, H-F’s chapter of We Act. In fall 2015, they got groups of H-F students to collect food for the needy.
The students next sponsored “We Create Change” by collecting loose change from fellow students, family members and friends. They raised enough money to help three families in Africa buy goats, an important source of family food and income in the region.
Destiny went on to be the founding president of You Matter 2, a youth philanthropy group dedicated to changing the world and raising awareness about local and global issues. They hosted an open forum in May 2016. Residents 15 and older discussed civic engagement and how to unify the Homewood-Flossmoor community.
Greear and Watson remained active with WE during their senior year at H-F. The WE organization linked them to the Allstate Insurance Company’s #theysay campaign, a platform that empowers young people to dispel the negative stereotypes about them by sharing their stories.
Greear is a student at Michigan State University. She will be going to Kenya in June on a pre-med and health policy trip sponsored by WE. Destiny is studying human rights at the University of Dayton.
