Flossmoor library board selects new director

The Flossmoor Public Library has a new director.

Aaron Carlin will take over as library director on March 13. He replaces Megan Millen, the director for the past 14 years. Last November she became director of the Joliet library system.

Carlin was previously manager of the Randall Oaks branch in West Dundee, part of the Fox River Valley Library District.

The Flossmoor library board interviewed five candidates for the director’s post. Carlin agreed to take the position last week.

“Aaron impressed us with his enthusiasm, passion for the library, interest in working collaboratively with our Flossmoor community and varied ideas for new programs,” said Anne Thiros, the library board president. “He also brings a lot of tech experience, which will help our library stay current in this area.

“We look forward to working with Aaron to continue to make the Flossmoor Public Library a center for reading, learning and community.”

Thiros said Carlin started working part-time as a security officer at the Champaign Public Library while attending college at the University of Illinois.

“His introduction to the library through a security role sparked a passionate interest in the profession,” she said.

After that, he went to work as a circulation clerk, followed by a full-time position at Champaign’s Douglass Branch and then in the main library’s children’s department.

Carlin received his master of science degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois in 2013. He is a veteran of the United States Navy.

Thiros said Carlin will be moving to the Flossmoor area with his wife and children in the near future.
