More criminal charges added following Flossmoor home invasion

A 20-year-old Lynwood man is facing additional felony charges following his arrest for home invasion in Flossmoor in early December.

Eric Charleston Hagan, 20, of the 18000 block of Willow Drive in Lynwood is now charged with felony armed home invasion, residential burglary, attempted armed robbery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a spokesman for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said Friday.

Following his arrest on Dec, 7, Hagan was initially charged with armed home invasion, police said. A Cook County grand jury, meeting in December, added the other three charges.

Hagan was arraigned on the charges on Jan. 3 and pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Markham courthouse, the state’s attorney’s office said.  His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 24 in Markham.

He remains in custody at Cook County Jail on a $750,000 bond.

Hagan was arrested after Flossmoor officers chased him into the lower level of a Carroll Parkway home, according to a police report. He allegedly entered the unlocked back door of the home early on Dec. 7 and confronted the owners, police said.

Police found a 9 mm automatic handgun that Hagan allegedly carried into the house, as well as watches and other jewelry that he had taken during the incident, the report says.

Police were called to the house at 6:50 a.m. when a woman reported that an intruder had entered her home as she was preparing to leave for work. The woman said her husband was still in the house with the man. She said she did not see a weapon but that the man kept his hand behind his back.

The woman said her husband told her to leave the house with their child, which she did.

Police arrived on the scene a few minutes after her call and two officers entered the house. They saw the husband, who motioned that the intruder was headed out the front door, police said. The officers heard a noise and saw a man move toward the lower level of the house. They followed the man – later identified as Hagan — down a set of stairs and subdued him.

No one was harmed in the incident, police said.
