For the 32nd consecutive year, the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.The park district was notified of the honor by letter Feb. 23. This is the highest honor awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The certificate is given in recognition of the park district’s accounting and financial reporting, and its comprehensive annual financial report. GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
