H-F students host food drive at home opener for boys basketball

Fans of Homewood-Flossmoor High School boys basketball are invited to donate food instead of paying admission for the first home game when the Vikings take on Thornridge High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, in the South Gym.

Each spectator can bring two nonperishable food items, including baby food, canned beans, canned fruits, canned vegetables, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, rice, soup, tomato products and tuna.

As part of the Holiday Angels program at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Student Government will be hosting its sixth annual drive to benefit the food pantry at Jones Community Center in Chicago Heights.

H-F Student Government supports the pantry every year as a way to give back to the community, especially those in need during the holiday season. Last year, students collected over 1,000 nonperishable items.

Senior Courtney Commodore, the student government executive board president said, “In trying to solve problems like world hunger, we often forget to check in our own community. We have families who need our support as they deal with difficult times, and I think that the food drive provides that support for our community. Students and families are able to give back and cheer on our boys basketball team. It’s a win-win situation!”
